Sealed for the future: PerfectaCOL® in biodegradable paper-based packaging

Packaging producers looking to replace plastic sachets face a familiar dilemma: paper is more sustainable, but it still needs to seal securely and protect the product inside. A chocolate manufacturer using plastic, heat-pressure sealable sachets wanted to move to 100% biodegradable paper-based packaging, but needed an alternative that could combine reliable sealing with oil-and-grease resistance. PerfectaCOL® offered that combination in one plant-based solution: a 100% natural potato-starch derivative that works as a biodegradable adhesive and barrier film, helping prevent fat from the chocolate from migrating into or through the paper.

The solution also matched the practical needs of packaging production. PerfectaCOL® is heat-pressure sealable, fast setting and designed for easy processing on existing equipment. Its remelting properties help create a secure seal, while its barrier performance supports oil-and-grease, oxygen and VOC protection. For packaging manufacturers and consultants trying to move away from synthetic adhesives, plastic layers or fluorochemical-based barriers, PerfectaCOL® offers a cost-efficient route to paper-based packaging that is biodegradable, recyclable and compostable, without making performance the compromise.
