Stronger hold, smoother work: CasuCOL® in large-format tile adhesives
Large-format tiles give homes, hotels and commercial spaces a premium, seamless look. But for adhesive producers and installers, bigger tiles also bring bigger technical pressure: heavier materials, longer handling time, higher precision and a greater risk of slip or sag before curing. A customer producing high-performance tile adhesives and cement-based renders needed a thickening system that could deliver strong anti-slip performance while keeping the mortar smooth, workable and easy to apply. CasuCOL®, Avebe’s starch ether for cement-based formulations, provided the right balance: building early structure to hold heavy tiles in place, improving cohesion and helping installers position tiles precisely, even on vertical or uneven surfaces.
The benefit held up in practical application. CasuCOL® improves workability, supports excellent anti-slip and anti-sag behaviour, and helps extend open time so installers have more room to align and adjust oversized tiles without sacrificing final bond strength. Because it delivers high efficiency at low dosage and is compatible with other building chemicals, the customer could improve application quality and productivity without major changes to the existing production process. For manufacturers working in a market shaped by larger tiles, tighter tolerances and rising sustainability expectations, CasuCOL® offers a practical way to combine strength, smooth handling and renewable potato-starch based performance.
